At least three people have been confirmed injured while five others were rescued unhurt in multiple accidents along the Oraifite-Onitsha Road.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra Command’s spokesperson, Mrs Margaret Onabe.
According to Onabe, the crash which occurred at approximately 9:50am involved a green DAF commercial truck, with registration number 9BGT18LG, and two vehicles, including a Toyota Camry and a Sino truck.
The truck, driven by one Mr. Sunday, had reported collided with the two vehicles.
“The accident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. along the Oraifite-Onitsha Road, near Nwazota Oraifite Junction.
“A green DAF commercial truck, with registration number 9BGT18LG, driven by Mr Sunday, collided with two vehicles, including a Toyota Camry and a Sino truck.
“In total, eight adult males were involved in the crash. Three sustained injuries, while five escaped unhurt. Thankfully, no fatalities were recorded.
“The crash was caused by excessive speed and loss of control. Eyewitnesses reported that the Sino truck driver was speeding when he lost control and hit the Camry,” she said.
Onabe explained that the Camry had stopped at a T-junction for another truck to pass when the impact pushed it into the truck, leading to the crash.
“The vehicles involved were: A white-grey/blue Sino truck, registration number NEM514XA, owned by BUA Cement, driven by Onyekachi Chijioke.
“A green DAF commercial truck, registration number 9BGT18LG
“A black private Toyota Camry, registration number GCE533FR, owned by Mr Michael Nkeowuka.” the FRSC spokesperson said.
Onabe urged motorists and road users to avoid excessive speeding and any actions that could compromise their safety.
She added that FRSC officials arrived promptly and took the injured victims to Josephine & Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Ifite Oraifite.
She also stressed that after implementing traffic control measures, the Command engaged tow truck operators to clear the crash site and restore traffic flow.
According to Onabe, the Corps Commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander, issued the advice following the crash.
The Sector Commander urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel.
