The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 15 for the arraignment of Azania Omo-Agege over alleged fraud involving more than N40 million.
Justice Mohammed Umar adjourned the matter on Wednesday after counsel to the Inspector-General of Police, Maryam Kalejaiye, requested more time for the police investigating team to produce the defendants in court.
When the case was called, neither Omo-Agege nor his lawyer was present in court.
Kalejaiye told the court that the matter had been scheduled for Omo-Agege and his co-defendant, Sidali Efemana, to take their plea, but the investigating team had not been able to establish contact with the suspects.
She subsequently asked for an adjournment to allow the prosecution complete necessary procedures, prompting the court to fix July 15 for arraignment.
Prior attempts to arraign the defendants were unsuccessful due to their absence in court.
On Sept. 29, 2025, the arraignment did not proceed because the accused persons were not in court. The matter was also stalled earlier on March 20, 2025, before former trial judge, Inyang Ekwo, after both defendants failed to appear.
However, Omo-Agege’s counsel, Prof. J.E.O. Abugu, SAN, was present during the March proceedings.
According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/75/2025, Omo-Agege and Efemana are facing allegations bordering on criminal breach of trust, obtaining money under false pretence, and issuance of dud cheques.
The Inspector-General of Police listed Omo-Agege and Efemana as the first and second defendants respectively, while Daniel Omughelli was named as being at large.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired in 2022 to commit the offences, which are punishable under Section 97(1) of the Penal Code Act.
Omo-Agege currently serves as Interim President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation.
