The Osun State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan, has temporarily been removed from his role as the Nigeria Police Force deployed an Election Police Commissioner, Samuel Erale, to oversee the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Gotan’s removal is coming after months of public outcry over his alleged partisanship ahead of the August 15 Governorship Election.
He was accused of compromise and collaboration with the All Progressives Congress, APC, who allegedly used officials of the command as tools of oppression against the members and leaders of the ruling Accord Party.
Sequel to the raid and arrest of the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, at his residence, reports emerged on Thursday evening that the Police Commissioner has been removed.
This had sparked celebration among some netizens who commended the Nigeria Police Force over the development.
Meanwhile, some reports claimed that the commissioner was permanently removed.
This would however be debunked by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who clarified Gotan’s removal in telephone conversation with NPO Reports correspondent.
‘There is nothing like that. We only have an election CP that is been deployed to Osun State over the election.
‘I’m telling you what is on ground now. You are a witness to Ekiti. They brought an election CP to come and oversee an election.
‘That is all I can say.’ Ojelabi said.
