The Federal Government has announced plans to begin phasing out electricity subsidies from 2027 as part of efforts to reform Nigeria’s power sector.
The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this during a media briefing with journalists in Abuja on Friday.
Tegbe said the subsidy would be removed gradually, noting that the process would be carefully managed to ensure Nigerians do not lose the benefits currently available to electricity consumers.
He also ruled out any immediate increase in electricity tariffs, assuring the public that the planned subsidy phase-out would not translate into higher tariffs in the short term.
