Sen. Adams Oshiomole, the lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, has revealed reason behind his confrontation with the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, as he held that he is not afraid of the red chamber’s leader.
NPO Reported that Oshiomole and Akpabio had on Wednesday engaged in a heated argument with the Senate President threatening to take the former Edo state governor out of the chamber.
The argument had stemmed out of Oshiomole’s argument and disapproval of a motion over the forthcoming Senate Presidential election.
The Edo lawmaker held that the motion was hurriedly passed with little deliberation on it by lawmakers.
Addressing newsmen at the upper chamber on Friday, Oshiomole held that he his unmoved by Akpabio’s influence while disclosing that the passed motion had proposed that only lawmakers who have been in the Senate for eight consecutive years are legible to contest for the senate presidential election.
He charged Akpabio to lead by example and step down since he falls short of the new requirement.
“If other people are afraid, I’m not afraid. I’m only afraid of my creator because I’ve seen that whether you tell the lie of the truth, the date of death you can’t adjust it either forward or backward.
“If we pass the rules that you must do eight consecutive years before you can be Senate President, it means he has to lead by example by vacating because he is presiding without acquiring the appropriate qualification.” He said.
Oshiomole questioned the motive behind the motion as he accused Akpabio of plot to block potential competition for the position.
“More offensive to me is that as leaders who are products of ballots, we must not make laws to perpetuate anyone.
“Senator David Mark has the honour and privilege of serving for eight years not by playing with the rules. Those rules that enabled David Mark to preside for eight years, what is wrong with them?
“Those rules that enabled this Senate President to contest for presidency, what is wrong with them?
“Why changing it now because you think that last time, this rule of worth ranking was all what required and he turned out to be the only one from the South-South where it was zoned to.
“Now he fears that more Senators will be eligible which will broaden the competition base and now he want to stop it.” The Edo lawmaker said.
