The Imole Campaign Council has directed its structures across Osun State to begin documenting victims of electoral violence recorded before, during and after the governorship election in the State.
The council said the exercise would cover all 30 local government areas of the state and would provide a comprehensive record of people affected by violence during the election on Saturday.
The council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, announced the directive in a statement on Monday.
He said the documentation would include people who sustained injuries, families who lost loved ones, residents whose properties were damaged or destroyed and other identifiable victims of election-related violence.
“This exercise must capture persons who sustained injuries, families who lost loved ones, persons whose properties were damaged or destroyed, and other identifiable victims of election-related violence,” he said.
Olajengbesi stressed that the exercise would not be limited to members or supporters of the campaign council.
According to him, victims would be documented irrespective of their political affiliation, party membership or choice of candidate during the election.
“Violence against any citizen diminishes us all, and no family should be forgotten simply because of their political persuasion,” he said.
The spokesperson said the council appreciated Osun voters for the outcome of the election but acknowledged that the victory could not erase the suffering experienced by families who lost loved ones or sustained injuries.
He added that the council had instructed its local government structures to submit comprehensive and verifiable records of affected persons for further review and appropriate action.
“Accordingly, all local government structures have been directed to submit comprehensive and verifiable records of affected persons for further review and appropriate action.
“The election is over. Our common humanity must now take precedence over political differences,” Olajengbesi said.
