The Osun State Police Command has nabbed three suspects over alleged theft and illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets meant for public distribution.
This is contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Police in Osun, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on Tuesday.
According to Ojelabi, the police got information on June 9 that some individuals were engaged in the sale of government mosquito nets.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, a female, native of Delta State, and staff of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) attached to Ife North Local Government Area, Ipetumodu.
“Alongside a commercial motorcyclist engaged in dispute over the proceeds realised from the unlawful sale of the mosquito nets.
“Investigation established that the suspects, in collaboration with another, allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 pieces of mosquito nets on June 8,” he said.
Ojelabi said the sold mosquito nets were originally meant to be distributed free of charge to members of the public as directed under the government health intervention programme.
He said the suspects were taken into custody for interrogation and that during investigation, they confessed to their involvement in the alleged offence.
The police spokesperson said the suspects had been charged to court.
Ojelabi said the police is committed to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that individuals entrusted with public welfare programmes were held accountable under the law.
