The allegation of vote buying at the just concluded Ekiti governorship election has further been intensified as lady displays N15,000 cash collected after voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
NPO Reported that the conduct of the Saturday election had widely been subjected to controversies on massive vote buying across several polling units with the APC at the centre of the allegation.
While some videos of the act had resurfaced during the election, the latest video of the female voter flaunting the cash received after casting her vote further affirmed the allegation.
As seen in the clip shared on X, the visibly excited lady, confirmed collecting the money from the APC as she hailed the party.
“APC for life. 15 kpa for one vote. Shey you dey whine ni.” She said in the clip as she showed the voting ink on her thumb.
The election which saw the incumbent governor and APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, emerge winner with 319,224 votes had highly faulted with major opposition parties’ candidate condemning the conduct of the election.
Dare Abejide, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate had, during the election at his polling unit, raised alarm over massive vote buying and voters’ intimidation.
Abejide had also alleged presence of fake policemen who assaulted his security aide and injured his driver after challenging officials of the APC alleged to have brought money to the polling unit.
The ADC candidate would further reject the outcome of the election while speaking on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics programme yesterday.
Abejide described the Saturday poll as a bad day for democracy.
Also expressing his dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluwole Oluyede, who at his polling unit in Ikere Local Government Area of the state who described the conduct as useless.
However, Oluyede’s displeasure at the poll was centred on voter’s disenfranchisement as the Bimodal Voters’ Accreditation System (BVAS) failed to capture the details of some of the elderly voters at the poll.
He also raised concerns over the heavy security presence, alleging intimidation and harassment of voters and party members.
