The Independent National Electoral Commission has heeded the calls of political parties which argued that the earlier fixed date for the submission of party registers was too short. The commission, in a statement released late Friday, said a new date has now been fixed for May within which the parties are to submit their registers. INEC said it has moved the new date to May 10 from April 21 which earlier gave. Safiu Kehinde President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday gave all political appointees who are interested in contesting the next general elections till March 31 to quit his government. This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by Dewan Goshit, the Head of Information and Public Relations to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SSG). The Trump administration’s top official on counterterrorism has resigned from his position, citing opposition to the war in Iran, and urged the president to “reverse course”. A major explosion is believed to have rocked the city of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday as the police asked residents to keep safe. The explosion reportedly occurred in the evening of Monday at the Monday Market where casualties could not be determined at the time of filing this report. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Sunday said its operatives have arrested a 74-year-old grandpa, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, over possession of illicit substances believed to be cocaine. NDLEA said Emeka was nabbed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja “after a large consignment of cocaine was discovered in foil papers and balloons concealed in his luggage.” The agency said its men also made other recoveries large consignments of opioids at Ebute Ero, Idumota Lagos Island raids; intercepts 339,800 bottles of codeine shipment in Apapa.
